Pumas take the heat to the Cape
The impressive clash against the Down Touch Griffons is a thing of the past and this week the Steval Pumas will travel to Kimberley for their next Currie Cup warm-up encounter.

According to assistant coach MJ Mentz, they will play this midweek clash against the GWK Griquas on Wednesday afternoon with a team comprising of players who haven’t made the starting 15 in a long time.
“This decision was made from both sides to test the depth of the current group and to prepare all the players for the Currie Cup series. You don’t want to go into the series with players with hardly any game time,” Mentz said.
On fullback, Heinrich Steyl’s versatility will be tested and on wing Marcello Sampson and Deon Scholtz will add some speed at the end of the backline.
Ashwin Scott is one of the more senior players in the chosen squad and will guard the midfield with Dewald Pretorius.
JC Roos and Snake Nyoka are the playmakers behind the scrum while Doppies le Roux, JJ Breet and Brian Shabangu are the loose forwards on the prowl. In the engine room it’s Marius Coetzer and Marco Kruger at lock, with Pieter Stemmet, Jacques Momberg and
DeJay Terblanché in the front row.
On the bench are Cois du Toit, Stephan Kotzé, Elardus Venter, Uzair Cassiem, Jaco Bouwer, Johan Herbst, Justin van Staden and Wilmaure Louw.
“In the next couple of weeks we’ll work hard on our structures as on August 1 the Vodacom Blue Bulls will bring their actual Currie Cup team to Mbombela as part of their last warm-up encounter before the series kicks off on August 8, and we need to be ready for that,” he concluded.
