Brothers collide on greens
A nail-biting final came down to great sportsmanship and bowls between the two Janse van Vuuren brothers, Shawn and Wayne.

They had to fight it out over the weekend in the Lowveld Open Singles Invitational Masters bowls tournament hosted at LVCC.
Twelve men, Shawn and Wayne Janse van Vuuren, Hardus Korf, Denis Paiva, Piet Smith, Anthony Visser, Kosie Smit, Quinton Wilson, Dawie van der Merwe, Tinus Janse van Vuuren, Stephen Venter, and Giel Nel was chosen to participate.
The men came from Mbombela, Malalane, LVCC, Barberton and White River. The format of play was singles and the bowler who first reached 21 points was declared the winner, receiving two points for the game. There were two sections with six bowlers each.
Some reached up to 27 ends before a winner was declared. Three games were played on day one (Saturday) and two on the Sunday with the finals decided that same afternoon.

• Shawn Janse van Vuuren – eight points with a shot aggregate of 41
• Piet Smith – eight points and 18
• Kosie Smit – six points and 25.

• Wayne Jasnse van Vuuren – 10 points with a shot aggregate of 42
• Hardus Korf – eight points and 9
• Anthony Visser – six points and 1.
