Lowveld bowls excel in Secunda

The Lowveld men and ladies have made a huge statement in the Mpumalanga Bowls play-offs that was played on July 4 and 5 in Secunda. 

Both teams, ladies Henriette Pearson, Veronica Coertzen, Jeanette Richards and men side, Shawn J van Vuuren, Wayne J van Vuuren and Dawie van der Merwe was from Nelspruit Bowling Club.

It was two days of concentration, willpower and endurance that made the ladies win all of their games against Highveld and Central.  The wind was unbearable and very cold but that didn’t damper the bowler’s mood for bowls. Some players struggled to find the right line and weight while others couldn’t go wrong.

The format was to play to 15 ends except finals was played over 18 ends and the team that had the highest score on the last end was declared the winners of the game. All teams were divided into two sections.  Each team consisted off three player called trips.

Section Winners and runner-ups ladies:

Section 1 winner was Jeanette Richards team with 6 points and shot aggregate of 13 – Lowveld

Runner-up was Anet van Ryneveld with 3 points and a shot aggregate of 12 – Highveld

Section 2 winners was Michelle van der Westhuizen with 4 points and a shot aggregate of 14 –    Central

Runner-up was Marie Saayman’s team with 4 points and a shot aggregate of 9 – Lowveld

 

Section Winners and runner-ups men:

Section 1 winner was Joao Richards with 4 points and a shot aggregate of 29 – Lowveld

Runner-up was J Labuschagne’s team with 4 points and a shot aggregate of 9 – Highveld

Section 2 winners was Shawn J van Vuurens team with 6 points and a shot aggregate of 33 – Lowveld

Runner-up was P du Plessis team with 4 points and a shot aggregate of 15 – Highveld

In the finals it was both Lowveld men Shawn J van Vuuren, Wayne J van Vuuren and ladies Jeanette Richards, Veronica Coertzen and Henriette Pearson that won making them the over-all winners of the Mpumalanga trip.
