Rugby field in ashes

Last Saturday Shamma College hoped to host a sevens rugby tournament for promising local players, but to their disappointment they had to cancel the event.

The day before kick-off, the organiser Amon Mavuso discovered their field in ashes.

“It seems as if a wild fire occurred and spread over our field – unfortunately it is now unplayable but we will still be hosting a Boksmart presentation and coach training by the Pumas, represented by Aggrey Mokoena.”

He added that as soon as the field is back in playing condition the tournament will commence as planned.

He said, “Today we will be doing coach training and player safety. As a coach you need to be certified and this will enable teachers to start rugby teams throughout the school.”

Principal of Shamma College, Mr Welcome Ndlovu, encouraged Mavuso to interact with the community and the students to spark interest in team building and participating.
