Five players who starred for the Steval Pumas over the weekend

1) Renaldo Bothma
Bothma continues to enhance his reputation each week in this season’s Currie Cup. Another stellar performance from the big number eight was crucial in securing Pumas some momentum, especially in the second half. His try in the 63rd minute gave his side a much needed boost which eventually lead to their comfortable victory against the men from Kimberley.
2) Corné Steenkamp
The leader of the powerful Steval Pumas pack, once again showed his experience in securing the bonus point try for the home team. The over 150 cap veteran played his cards perfectly as he went over the line in the dying seconds to score his side’s fourth try much to the delight of his teammates and coach Jimmy Stonehouse.
3) Jerome Pretorius
Jerome Pretorius was outstanding on the wing and used his pace, power and determination to good effect to score two important tries for his team. Pretorius’ brace of tries came both at a crucial time that helped to swing the momentum into the Pink shirts’ favour.
4) Corné Fourie
Fourie, who was part of the Lions’ setup during the Superrugby season, looks to have picked up a mountain of experience that has aided the Pumas tremendously. Fourie was a cornerstone in the scrum and alongside tighthead Vincent Koch they controlled the Pumas’ power game that lead to two tries from a rolling maul.
5) Justin van Staden
The flyhalf converted a number of important penalties to gain a definite advantage for the Pumas. Van Staden succeded where his compatriot goal kicker from the Griquas, Francois Brummer, failed. Van Staden has put in a few solid performances and alongside fellow flyhalf JC Roos, the Pumas have strength in depth in this department.
