Guardian Angels raises large sum with golf

The organisation raised almost R28 000 in profit from their annual golf day held at White River Golf Club on Friday.

If a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at the office, fun golf days for charity remains a surefire way to get the community involved in raising funds for your cause.

This proved true once again over the weekend when Guardian Angels raised almost R28 000 in profit from their annual golf day. It was held at White River Golf Club on Friday of last week and boasted a full field.

This non profit organisation “guards over the elderly and sick” and involves a group of volunteers who focus exclusively on the elderly living in their respective communities and mainly in their own homes. The emphasis is on offering companionship to senior citizens, many of whom live on their own or with their children and need an occasional visit or assistance with small tasks.

Marcel van Doorn, national co-ordinator, said the funds they generated from the golfing event day will be used towards fulfilling the wishes of the elderly and old age homes in need of certain items, especially since October is also Older Person’s Month.

It was the second time Guardian Angels had organised the fun golf day solo, since in the past they had held the event with Alzheimer’s South Africa.

Van Doorn said they are already planning next year’s event, which will be held in September next year. Enquiries: visit guardianangels.co.za or like GuardianAngelsSA on Facebook.
