2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour entries open on 26 September 2014

G Entries for the two other Lifecycle Week events – the Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge and Cape Town Cycle Tour Juniors – will open on the same day.

The annual Cycle Tour will take place on Sunday, 8 March 2015 when roughly 35,000 riders will once again line up in Hertzog Boulevard to tackle the 109km route around the peninsula.

David Bellairs, a director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust which organises the event, says: “Entries for the 2015 tour opened slightly later this year due to our renaming the event in celebration of its iconic status and increasing global appeal.  During its 37-year history, it has grown from strength to strength with entries for the 2014 event selling out in just under a week.  We anticipate that entries for the 2015 race will sell out just as quickly and therefore encourage all prospective riders to enter early to avoid disappointment.

“The introduction of charity entries since 2012 means that those who aren’t able to secure a general entry for next year’s event in time, will still have the opportunity to ride for one of the 110 charities supported by the Cycle Tour, and to use the event as a platform to give back to their communities,” Bellairs concludes.

Fat tyre fun

The Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge will take place on Saturday, 28 February and Sunday, 1 March – kicking off the annual Lifecycle Week. It will again be hosted at the Le Bonheur Wine Estate in Stellenbosch’s Greater Simonsberg Conservancy, offering spectacular, specially-designed routes laid out by MTB trail-enthusiast, Meurant Botha.

Saturday’s event offers a fun-filled family day out, with two shorter routes of 14km and 22km available.  These two routes are perfect for younger or less experienced MTB-riders looking to enjoy an exciting day of cycling.  The 14km and 22km routes are limited to 750 and 1250 riders, respectively.

On the Sunday more seasoned riders will be given the chance to tackle the more challenging 38km or 55km routes.  The two longer routes are limited to 1000 and 1500 riders, respectively, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for these zealous cyclists.

For the youngsters

Young riders have a treat in store with the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour Juniors event taking place on Saturday, 7 March at the Youngsfield Military Base in Wynberg. Riders between the ages of 0 and 6 years will enjoy a 1.7km fun ride, which will introduce them to the basics of cycling in a safe and controlled environment.  Children between the ages of 6 and 12 years can tackle the 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km or 10km routes, which are sure to help them develop their cycling skills.

Parents must accompany the 1.7km route entrants on foot, while those participants tackling one of the longer routes can be accompanied by a parent on a bicycle.

Each rider who successfully completes their respective route will receive a goodie bag, medal and certificate.  There will also be a range of other activities for kids and families on the day, including an exciting prize giveaway once the routes have been completed.

Online entries for all three events can be submitted on the Cycle Tour website atwww.cycletour.co.za from 2pm on Friday, 26 September 2014.
