Gabajula Shabangu has been polishing his Pirates wall stamp for the past two weeks. This happened after they lost their “Money To Naturena” (MTN) Cup to Kaizer Chiefs and an Absa Premiership League match to Chippa United by a solitary goal.
“Look, I love this team. Win or lose, it’s my team. You see, I’m polishing my team wall stamp and there is no one who can love them more than me in this street,” said Shabangu who lives in Extension 10..
Shabangu has urged all Ghosts fans to rally behind their team in these tough times. “We are having a bad spell, but things will get better soon. We will come back and win the league. Kaizer Chiefs dominated last season and Mamelodi Sundowns only managed to win the league in the last seconds of the final. Their early good performance doesn’t scare me,” said Shabangu.
Chiefs are the front runners in the Absa trophy as they lead the 18-team league with 21-points after seven games- a hundred per cent record as they have not lost a single game.
Pirates are in position five with 11-points after the same number of games. The Glamour Boys, as Chiefs are affectionately known in football circles, have already pocketed another R1,5 million in the top of their MTN R8 million triumph.
But their achievements don’t scare Shabangu. “We are the only team in the Southern Africa region to have won the African Champion’s Cup. If they think they are the real champs, why don’t they have a star in their shirt?”
