Mist and rain add to the challenges of God’s Window race
Limited visibility due to mist and rain didn't stop runners from participating from the Build It God's Window race in Graskop on Saturday.
Runners of Barberton and White River to Phalaborwa and Polokwane stepped up to the starting line of the annual half-marathon, 10km and 5km races.
The 21km proved the most popular race, with 156 runners taking part, while 88 competed in the 10km and 26 in the 5km fun run.
Many of the runners told organisers that it was their first time competing in such misty conditions and remarked that it was quite an experience.
Nthuthuko Maseko, an athlete under Nedbank’s banner, crossed the finish line first, after running 10km in 34 minutes. Amos Thankwayo was the winner of the 21km, which he completed in 1:11.
Each participant received a medal and the winners of each category were rewarded with a cash prize during the prize-giving ceremony.
Both the organisers and sponsor, Build It,were very satisfied with the success of the event.
Since Hazyview currently doesn’t have a running club, runners are welcome to join the Legogote Villagers in White River. They have members from various towns and settlements in the area.
