Local horse excels
Nottinghill Equestrian Centre's instructor, Hennie Groenewald, riding Le Zar Solero - a nine-year-old South African warmblood gelding owned by Loura van den Heever - made his mark at the recent Horse of the Year show in Gauteng.
Owner and chief instructor of Nottinghill, Kraai Kamffer, remarked that the exceptional talent of the horse justified her entering Solero in the SA showing open classes. “Solero has only been with us for three months, and in that time he impressed me with his superb conformation, looks and willingness. Groenewald and Solero had struck up a remarkable rapport,” she said.
Solero was placed sixth in the show riding horse, fifth in show hunter, fourth in working hunter and third in working riding horse. More than 900 horses took part in the show. The supreme champion breed trophy was won by Le Zar Casablanca, Solero’s half-sister out of the same mare.
