Ladies on the green

The Lowveld female bowlers showed their opponents how it should be done during the recent Lowveld Ladies Pairs held at Barberton Bowling club.

The tournament comprised two days of competitive bowls among 25 teams divided into four sections from Nelspruit, LVCC, Bungalows, Lydenburg, Malelane, Barberton and White River.

After a very long and unbearable heat, the following ladies and men pairs’ team participated in the semi-finals and finals.

Ladies
• Section 1 – Marie Saayman and Anne-Marie van der Ham (Barberton) with 10 points and a shot aggregate of 22
• Section 2 – Madeleine Wilson and Marina Smith (Nelspruit) with eight points and a shot aggregate of 39
• Section 3 – Toekie Botha and Ann Dold (LVCC) with 10 points and a shot aggregate of 10
• Section 4 – Marlet Ireland and Christie Cross (Bungalows) with eight points and a shot aggregate of 57.

The format was a round robin. In the semi-finals Bungalows had to face Nelspruit and LVCC had to play Barberton.

In the finals Bungalows’ Marlet Ireland and Christie Cross played against Toekie Botha and Marilyn Coulson and Madeleine Wilson and Marina Smith played Marie Saayman and Anne-Marie van der Ham. Toekie and Marilyn walked away as the winners.

The ladies and men Mpumalanga play-offs took place on February 28 and March 1 at Barberton Bowling club. Lowveld did very well with results as
follows:
Men
• Winners – John van Eeden and Stephen Venter – Lowveld
Ladies
• Winners – Madaleine Wilson and Marina Smith – Lowveld.
