Anglers compete to bag the biggest bass
Despite rainy conditions, eager anglers took to the water on February 28 for the second leg of the Lowveld Small Boat Bass Trail Competition at Septico Dam.
The second leg of the fishing competition was hosted by Nabana Fishing Club and most anglers had a fish on the hook within the first few hours. As the day continued, it seemed like one or two decent fish could net them the first prize.
In the end, Jessica Olivier walked away with the prize for the largest fish of the day, with a bass weighing in at 2,55 kilogram.
Results:
First place: Jacques Woller and Marius Burger with a bag of 4,79 kilogram
Second: Jessica Olivier and Willem Olivier with a bag of 4,45 kilogram
Third: Paul Shepheard and De L’Isle de Villiers with a bag of 4,32 kilogram
Fourth: David Blow with a bag of 2,05 kilogram
Fifth: Rooies Beeton with a bag of 1,2 kilogram
Rooies Beeton also received a special mention for catching his first-ever five-fish bag.
The current standings for 2015:
• Paul Shepheard and De L’Isle de Villiers as well as Jacques Woller and Marius Burger are on 218 points
• David and Alice are on 216 points
• Rooies Beeton and Blow on 211 points
• Jessica Olivier and Willem Olivier are on 109 points
• Desmond Hearne and partner are on 107 points
• Craig Hearne and Rodney Hearne are on 106 points.
The next small boat competition will be held at Primkop Dam on March 29. Only boats under 15HP are allowed and all boats must carry lifejackets and a livewell.
Entry fee: R100 per angler, with two anglers per team.
