Penryn’s tennis boys lose out against Lydenburg

Penryn Preparatory School’s tennis dreams were shattered on their home court when their top players fell victim to the boys of Laerskool Lydenburg in the Lowveld Schools Open semi-finals on Wednesday March 18.
The final score was 34-15 in Lydenburg’s favour which was testimony to their dominance.
Penryn siblings, André and Johan le Roux, did their best in the blazing heat but could not gain the upper hand over Ruan van Esch and Hugo Coetser. Johan had a golden opportunity to record a win in his singles match but Hugo somehow managed to peg back a 4-0 deficit.
Ethan Scorgie also fell victim to Bernard van Esch’s ground game in their singles match. Rayne Sebastian gave some respectability to the scoreboard when he and Barnard put on some decent rallies in a close battle which ultimately ended in a tied match of 4-4.
Lydenburg also got the upper hand in the doubles matches with a 12-4 points victory.

Results – Singles
1. Ruan van Esch (Lydenburg) beat André le Roux (Penryn) 7-2.
2. Johan le Roux (Penryn) tie with Hugo Coetzer (Lydenburg) 4-4.
3. Bernard van Esch (Lydenburg) beat Ethan Scorgie (Penryn) 7-1.
4. Rayne Sebastian (Penryn) tie with Nathan Barnard (Lydenburg) 4-4.
Results – Doubles
1. Ruan van Esch and Hugo Coetser beat André and Johan le Roux 7-1.
2. Bernard van Esch and Nathan Barnard beat Ethan Scorgie and Rayne Sebastian 5-3.
