Join the Legogote Villagers for a run
If you live in the Parkville area or have kids in Uplands, you've probably seen the stream of athletes running next to the road on Thursdays. Most of these are Legogote Villagers taking part in the club's weekly time trials.
Legogote Villagers is a White River-based running club founded in 1984. About 90 runners from all over the region currently run under the club’s banner. They can be identified at most races around the Lowveld by their distinct red running gear and red gazebo named Bob. They also run the Comrades Marathon with their Good Morning White River banner, which has drawn the attention of media across the country.
There is a great cameraderie among the racers and participants will find themselves being encouraged when their paths cross with that of a club member.
The Legogote Villagers events include:
• Time trials every Thursday at 17:30 from the clubhouse at the White River Rugby Club. Everyone is welcome to come and test themselves against other runners and walkers in a 4,6- or 8-kilometre distance.
• Friday evenings at 17:30 there is a four kilometre or six kilometre walk from the clubhouse
• Saturday morning runs from 10 to 30 kilometres
• Sunday morning runs, between 14 and 28 kilometres
• Sunday afternoon runs, about 8 kilometres through the forest or along the canals
• Four-kilometre Moonlight runs on the first Monday night with a full moon
• Comrades long-training run, where they run from White River to Sabie. It includes a picnic 15 kilometres from the finish line.
• Pre-Comrades breakfast and run to send participants off in style
• Post-Comrades Aches and Pains party.
The club also host several races including the Sudwala Screaming Monster on May 2, a 21-kilometre race from the Sudwala Caves, The Mozma on July 18, a 21-, 10- and five-kilometre race from the White River Rugby Club and the God’s Window race on October 3, a 21-, 10- and five-kilometre race in Graskop.
