Wildgeese swimmers look back on first term’s successes

The Wildgeese Swimming Club held their interclub shortcourse gala on March 10 and the following swimmers walked away with trophies:

Best junior boy: Jaco Engelbrecht

Best junior girl: Simoné de Beer

Best senior boy: Stefan Krieg

Best senior girl: Julia Bedningham.

Many swimmers also achieved podium places (1-3) and received medals.

On March 14, preschools in the area competed to see how much their beginner swimmers had improved. Pupils from Plaaswerf, Noddy’s, Little Lambs, WDG Private Group, Educate School and Kinderland hit the water for some fun.

Noddy’s scooped the most medals and Christian Gouws and Megan Dingle were the best achievers.

Two of the club’s swimmers qualified for participation in the Level 2 SA championships at Sasolburg, with both reaching the finals and bettering their previous times. Stefan Krieg achieved a third place in 50m breast stroke and two fifth places in his other items.

The Level 1 SA Championships were held in Durban on March 27-29 and three swimmers from Wildgeese were invited to attend. Simoné de Beer qualified for eight items and chieved a bronze in 50m fly, four 4th places and one fifth.

Triston David also reached the finals in his six items. He had secured two fourth places and a fifth. He also bettered his times.

Carla Broodryk reached the finals in her items and achieved a fourth, fifth and sixth position and, along with her fellow club members, managed to better her best times.

She and her sister, Carike also qualified for the SA biathlon in Stellenbosch on April 4 and competed as part of the Mpumalanga team.

Wildgeese Swimclub is looking forward to even better results in the new term. The club practise at Hoërskool Rob Ferreira’s swimming pool after school most weekday afternoons and swimmers are welcome to join. For any enquiries contact Martie on 082-660-2896 or Alta on 073-142-4907.
