Dave Foxon remembered with successful golf day
Golf players gathered at Sabi River Sun on April 11 to honour the memory of Dave Foxon by spending time at one of his favourite places, the golf course.
About 40 golfers participated in the third Dave Foxon Memorial Golf Day, a competition following a better-ball format. Thanks to the brilliant weather the day was a great success and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to socialise and remember the good times spent with a great friend, colleague and family member.
Victories on the course were celebrated during a prize-giving ceremony at the clubhouse. The team which took first place were Anthony and Chippie with 43 points, in second were Mike and Mack with 43 points and in third Brendon and Martin received 42 points. Mike Nkosi received two awards, both for nearest to the pin on the second and 12th holes.
The idea for the memorial golf day was born after Dave Foxon (42) was shot and killed in front of his family on April 10, 2012. Foxon was acting manager at Umbhaba Lodge and adored in the community.
He loved golf and was part of the Sabi River Sun Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Bianca, and three children. Bianca initiated the golf day in her late husband’s memory and it had since become a well-supported event and highlight for local golfers.
