Local gymnastics judging course of the highest quality
In addition to their academic qualification, judges need to gain practical experience at local club competitions before they are ready to act as judges at provincial level.
This past weekend March 24 to 25, Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy (NGA) hosted a two-day judging course.
The course was attended by 15 new hopefuls and three qualified judges who came for a refresher. Should these candidates pass their theory and practical exams, they will be qualified Level 1 to 3 women’s artistic gymnastics judges.
The gymnastics fraternity places a high premium on the quality of its competitions and annually invests in training judges. They will be registered with the Mpumalanga Gymnastics Association as well as with the South African Gymnastics Federation. Successful completion of the exams is, however, not the end of the road.

Athletes need talent, dedication and coaches in order to follow their dreams, but without competitions they will practise in vein. Competitions are the lifeblood of a sport without which athlete and spectator’s interest will wane and peter out until a sport is no longer practiced. Training judges is therefore essential to promote and grow the beautiful sport of gymnastics.
The Mpumalanga trials will be hosted in Mbombela in August this year while the championships will take place in Ermelo.
