27 Year old Selati Race still going strong

Last year 876 athletes have participated in this race, compared to a mere 80 runners in 1989. This unique and well-known race as usually starts and end at the Malalane Rugby club. Competitors have this year again a choice between the 10km and a 21,1km race. The younger or less fit athletes have a choice between the 2km or the 4.9km Fun Run presented by and for the benefit of Malelane Primary School. The fun run last year attracted 1100 fun Runners.

Two unique aspects of this race are the route and the water points. The route will be the same as last year and still promises to be something special. More than 10km of the 21km route leads on the banks of the Crocodile River overlooking the Kruger National park and run adjacent to the Green Cane Fields

The 21km race this year turns around near the Fish Eagle Bend suburb of Malalane.

The water points considered as some of the best in the Lowveld each with their own unique characteristic and a real treat to any tired runner are manned by the different divisions of TSB Sugar Limited as well as some business partners. This leads to serious competition to be awarded as the best water point. No trouble or effort is spared to ensure this and create an unforgettable experience for each runner passing through the water point.

The sponsor wishes to again make the 2015 Selati 2 in 1 Marathon an unforgettable experience. The prize monies totalling more than R 12 000 are a clear indication of this. Each pre-entrant will also receive a Selati 3 in 1 T-Shirt and a Selati String Bag. The participants can also again look forward to a unique race medal of which the first ten is Gold and after that the next thirty is silver for each of the distances. Single Toll Gate Fees for the Nkomazi Toll Plaza will be reimbursed to all registered runners in exchange for a valid tollgate receipt date race day or the day before.

Race numbers for the main races can be collected at the start at the Malelane Rugby Club as from 16:00 to 19:00 on Friday 8 May as well as from 05:30 on Race Day. Late entries will then also still be accepted.
Temporary numbers will be available at R25.00 each. The entry fee will be as follows:
21km – R45
10km – R 30
The main race starts at 07:00
The Fun Run starts at 07:15 with an entry fee of R10
All fun run participants will also receive a unique medal as well as a Selati String bag.

Time keeping will be recorded by means of an electronic chip. The detailed results will be available shortly after the race at www.protime.co.za.
