Bowlers celebrate club’s 50th birthday on the green
True to Bungalows Bowling Club style, bowlers from all over the Lowveld celebrated the club's 50th birthday on the greens on May 2.
Current and former members as well as a few special guests, enjoyed two friendly games of 12 ends before heading to the clubhouse for refreshments.
Cake-baker extraordinaire Sindy Shaw created a special cake for the occasion and embroidered bowls cloths and miniature bottles of sparkling wine were given to all.
The clubhouse was decorated in the red, green and white of the club, with noticeboards containing old newspaper clippings and photos of the club’s successes and fun times over the years.
Denis Paiva received a hamper for the best personality of the day to celebrate the fact that he was always fun, friendly and a joker.
The event was concluded with a hearty meal which comprised of a lamb on the spit (prepared by Paul Shepheard of Nabana Lodge) and a glass of wine (sponsored by Mervyn Corbishley and Laurette Ford).
The club was establised at Sabi River Sun in 1964, with the present clubhouse and green officially opened on April 26, 1965. There are currently 16 Bowls SA-affiliated players and one social player.
Social bowls are played on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 14:00 to 17:00 and concluded with drinks and socialising in the bar.
