Rob Ferreira’s Hänelize excels at SA Junior Derby

Equestrian Hänelize Kamffer had a very successful run at the SA Junior Derby, which was held at Kyalami Equestrian Park in Gauteng from April 30 to May 3.

It was the Hoërskool Rob Ferreira pupil’s first attempt at the complete horse competition, and with Africa’s Whizzbar they achieved a second place. In order to compete, horse and rider have to pass four tests in order to qualify for the final free test on the final day, which makes it a competition of excellence.

On the same horse, she also placed seventh out of a class of 42 riders during the 1,2-metre speed competition.

The SA Junior Derby consisted of showjumping, equitation, showing and dressage and Hänelize competed in the 1,2-metre classes with both her horses, Africa’s Whizzbar and White Water Ruarch on Me. Over the four days of the competition, she took part in various events in the categories of showjumping, open equitation, showing and dressage.

The Junior Derby is one of the most prestigious events on the equestrian calendar and the equivalent of the SA Derby being held for adults in October every year. Juniors and pony riders from all over the country compete in this show and it is one of their annual competition highlights.
