MEC wishes Sunbirds luck as home team enter final stretch
The provincial netball side are vying for a sport in the first division.
Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Ms Norah Mahlangu-Mabena has expressed confidence in the Sunbirds winning promotion to Division One of the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League (NPL). The Mpumalanga Sunbirds are currently playing in Division Two of the NPL.
“The Sunbirds have what it takes to go all the way to Division One of the NPL after starting the new season on a positive note,” she said in a statement.
The NPL kicked off on May 8 and the Sunbirds got off to a winning start by beating the Limpopo Baobabs. They lost to the Eastern Cape Aloes and KwaZulu-Natal Kingdom Stars on May 10 and May 16 respectively.But this weekend the Mpumalanga lasses go into their fixtures at the University of Pretoria.on a high after beating the Northern Cape Diamonds last week.
The MEC has called on the sport-loving people of Mpumalanga to rally behind the side. They play the Aloes Sunday at 14:30.
