Player wants to fulfill her dreams in Australia

“We hereby congratulate Jamie de Vos on being selected for the girls u/16 South African squad.”
The South African Indoor Cricket Federation (SAICF) invited Jamie to the World International Cricket Federation (WICF) Junior World Series in Australia 2015.
The 14-year-old has been playing cricket since she was nine years old. She is part of a mix squad and captained the side for three years in a row even though she is just one of two girls in the team. “The boys seem to listen to Jamie when she tells them what needs to be done. She knows the game very well and reads it even better,” said Sonia, her mom.
Last year in July they competed in the Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) in Durban. Here the SAICF has seen her brilliance and true love for the game. At this year’s IPT in April they announced the SA team. Only three girls of the Lowveld will represent their country. Annerike Jacobs and Katie Prior are also included. The Lowvelders came fourth and played 10 games in five days.
SAICF will have representation in the following age groups – u/13 boys, u/15 boys, u/17 boys and u/16 girls. They are the top players. The following nations have been invited to participate: Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England, Wales, Sri Lanka and India.
“We have our first training camp in October where I will meet the other players. I am very excited and my fielding is in excellent form,” said Jamie. The team manager of the SA u/16 squad is a local manager at Nelspruit Action Arena, Jacki Dreyer.
Jamie and her brother, Jarred, have been playing since they were four.
“I learned a lot from him.” This year the Curro College learner bowled her first ball for the girl’s outdoor cricket team. In the first ball, she managed to take her first wicket.
Jamie is talented in tennis too, where she represents the Lowveld and her school.
