Gymnasts return from regionals with a medal each
The members of the local gymnastics club count under some of the best in the northern zone after the recent regional competition in Kempton Park.
After receiving Mpumalanga colours at the second provincial trials in Ermelo on August 15, the seven level 1 and one level 2 gymnasts of the Hazyview Gymnastics Club were excited to participate in the north zone competition in Kempton Park.
They made the provincial team proud and each managed to win a medal in their category. Kayleigh Wallace won bronze, Leanri Maartens silver, Keira Knight silver, Tiffany Marshall bronze, Lixi Price bronze, Karieke Coetzee gold and Vernique van den Berg silver.
The level 4 and 6 gymnasts also participated in the Mpumalanga trials in Ermelo. Claudia Wallace was overall fourth in her age group, Azme Chilloane came in first place and Leane Wallace, Seany Dorfling and David Dorfling all came in second place. Mia Vos was injured and could not participate but also qualified for the SAs.
The six gymnasts will take part in the SA Games during the October school holidays.
Owner and head coach Lynn Wallace says they will continue their hard work and practice to reach the goals they set at the start of the year.
She would like to thank sponsors, namely the Price family, Oom Kallie se Slaghuis and Galito’s for their support. Any help with travelling and clothing costs will be appreciated.
