New provincial cycle tour a first of its kind
The exciting new event on the road-cycling calendar, the Mpumalanga Cycle Tour, will take place from October 5 to 10 and is supported and sponsored by the Forever Resorts Group and the Mpumalanga Government.
The launch took place at the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency during a breakfast at Blyderivierspoort.
It will be the first of its kind in Mpumalanga to go from town to town, with the elite men’s group covering a total distance of approximately 749 kilometres.
The following categories of riders will participate:
• Elite, u/23 men
• Elite ladies
• Open veterans
• Corporate open category.
The tour offers a showcase of the most scenic areas of Mpumalanga, comprising the following stages:
• Stage 1 – Loskopdam to Badplaas
• Stage 2 – Badplaas to Mbombela
• Stage 3 – Mbombela Stadium to Kaapmuiden via Boulders, Barberton and back to Mbombela Stadium
• Stage 4 – White River to Hazyview, Sabie, Pilgrim’s Rest and Mount Sheba
• Stage 5 – Mount Sheba to Ohrigstad and Blyde River Canyon
• Stage 6 – Blyde River Canyon to Graskop, Sabie, and finish just outside White River.
Riders must enter for all events online at CycleEvents. You will be required to produce your valid CSA licence or proof of provincial affiliation at registration or you will be required to purchase an event licence.
