Test your mettle at the God’s Window race
Looking for a new challenge or want to see how your fitness regime is going? Then why not enter this year's scenic God's Window Race, hosted by the Legogote Villagers.
One of the area’s most scenic annual races is set take place in Graskop on October 3. The Build It God’s Window Race, hosted by the Legogote Villagers, has become a favourite event for local runners, as well as those from other provinces.
During last year’s race, rain and heavy mist made the challenge a cold one with limited visibility and finishers could truly say they had conquered it.
This year’s race will start at 07:00 at the Graskop Caravan Park, with entries taken from 05:30. Entry fees are R60 for 21km, R30 for 10km and R10 for 5km. Temporary licenses will be available for R25.
Grandmasters will be able to run for free. Walkers are welcome.
All finishers will receive a medal, with prize money awarded to winners in all categories in both the 21km and 10km.
There will be a time limit of 3 hours.
Organisers urge all runners and walkers to take on this race and to bring the whole family along. According to them it is a fairly tough route but the scenery more than makes up for any discomfort.
The race starts just outside the caravan park and takes runners along the Graskop – Ohrigstad road where the going is relatively easy and pleasantly undulating. The route then turns right into God’s Window, where a 7km climb to the top of the hill awaits. This section is a good time to walk and enjoy the view, with the downhill afterwards a great way to make up some time.
