Bowlers inspired by nature of tournament

The local bowling club recently hosted a successful week-long tournament with players from as far as Limpopo participating. This was the 31st edition of the Selati Bowling tournament at the Malalane Country Club. Speaking to Corridor Gazette, the organiser and host, Stephen Venter, explained the proceedings. “They played every single day. They played between two to three games a day, depending on which day it was. We work on a points system, and the guys just have fun here. They love coming here,” Venter explained. He added that people came from as far as Rustenburg, Limpopo, Pretoria and Johannesburg. “It is a very prestigious event because when the guys leave, they have already paid and booked for next year.” According to Venter although there is prize money involved, many of the participants are here just because they enjoy the game. “We spoil them and give them a nice lunch. In the mornings we give them tea and sandwiches, afterwards they get lunch and then they play in the afternoon.” Participants camped out at the venue and enjoyed the benefit of being close to Kruger National Park. Venter added that some of the sponsors had been invited during the course of the week for a braai with the players. He said, “This was one of our better years. We had very good sponsors this year such as SalChain, Mascor Malalane and Malalane Toyota.” More than 70 people attended this year’s tournament, which ended in the prize-giving. In conclusion Venter thanked all the sponsors who made the event a success. “We would like to thank them from the depths of our hearts, because without sponsors it’s difficult,” he said.
