Impala win an epic battle
The White River Country Club recently played host to Impala and Nelspruit hockey clubs for an epic battle.
The White River Country Club recently played host to Impala and Nelspruit hockey clubs for an epic battle. The game was tightly contested, but a soft goal by Impala captain Kyle Hoffman, after receiving a pass from Keith Erasmus, which he slotted 10 minutes into the second half, set the pace very high, but still clenched a win for his team.
This ensured that the Impalas have won the Lowveld league for the sixth consecutive year. Impalas will also contest the Mpumalanga league for the sixth year running. Impala coach Erasmus says the Nelspruit Hockey Club really impressed him this season as they put up a good fight. “They will become a force to be reckoned with if they stick to what they are doing. They have many youngsters, and the more they play, the better they will become.”
Mpumalanga Hockey is run in two regions, the Lowveld and Highveld. The following teams from the Lowveld have progressed to the play-offs where they will take the Highveld teams on to decide who the champions of Mpumalanga will be:
• First league men – Impala 1 and
Nelspruit 1
• Second league men – Impala 2 and Nelspruit 2
• First league ladies – White River 1 and LVCC 1
• Second league ladies – Nelspruit 2 and White River 2
The semi-finals will take place at
the Hockey Farm in eMalahleni on
October 4 and the finals will be played at Curro Nelpruit on October 10.
