Swimmers get rewards

Liza-Mari Drummond took home two trophy awards at Mpumalanga Province Swimming's annual awards evening last week.

Not only did she get the trophy for swimming personality of the year, but also the prestigious prize for best individual performance for the 50-metre freestyle event when she bagged 608 points.

Earlier this year the member of Uniswim qualified for the South African Youth Nationals for the 100-metre freestyle for u/15 when she touched the wall in only 01:02.

On Saturday during the Mpumalanga Xerox Sprint gala she broke four records. She set up new times in the 50- and 100-metre freestyle event as well as 50- and 100-metre backstroke.

Giano dos Santos was crowned the junior swimmer of the year after he also had a great year to look back on. At the Mpumalanga Winter gala he improved on his time in the 200-metre individual medley with 12,17 seconds. He also won that event in 02:37,72. He set up a new record over the weekend in the 100-metre backstroke.

The promising swimmer, 13-year-old Jordyn Minifie also competed in Durban at the Youth Nationals for the 400- and 200-metre individual medley. She got the trophy for senior swimmer of the year.
