Wildgeese swimmers recognised for achievements
Swimmers of the Wildgeese Swimming Club made a splash at the annual Mpumalanga Swimming Awards evening.
The Mpumalanga Swimming Awards was held at Bee Eaters just before the school holidays and the province’s best swimmers were rewarded for their achievements during the last season.
Tristan David won the trophy for the best progress swimmer of the year. He also received a certificate in recognition for getting two fourth places and two fifth places at the SA level 1 swimming championships.

Other swimmers that received certificates were:
- Stefan Krieg, who won a bronze medal in 50m breaststroke, a fourth place in 50m backstroke and a 5th place in 50m flystroke during the SA level 2 championships,
- Franco Labuschagne who swam in the finals of SA level 2,
- Carla Broodryk who achieved two fourth and two fifth places in the finals of SA level 1,
- Simoné de Beer won a bronze in the 50m flystroke, as well as two fourth places and a fifth.
The Wildgeese swimmers practised throughout the October holiday to prepare for the coming season and have already participated in several galas in the area.
With summer well underway, the club’s younger swimmers are also enjoying the opportunity to splash around in the swimming pool during their lessons.
Club members practice in Hoërskool Rob Ferreira’s swimming pool in the afternoon, under the watchful eye of their coach, Martie Vitus.
