Backhand Blossoms edge Lunar Lillies to take Lowveld Padel title

A commanding doubles performance secures four vital points as 60 players battle across two venues in the Lowveld Padel Ladies Franchise League's second season.

The Lowveld Padel Ladies Franchise League Season 2 concluded on October 22 in what organisers described as the circuit’s most competitive season.

After a record-breaking tournament, the Backhand Blossoms defeated the Lunar Lillies 7-6 at Play 360 padel courts. Although all players delivered their best performance on the courts, two Backhand Blossoms players secured the season victory.

Amor Caromba and Faeeza Patel of the Backhand Blossoms delivered the final’s most commanding performance, defeating Heleen van der Mescht and Mari Jaquire of Lunar Lillies 6-0, 6-2, 10-1.

Their clean sweep earned four points, compared with three for a 2-1 victory.

With each finalist winning two matches, Caromba and Patel’s performance supplied the margin that turned a tightly contested evening into a championship triumph.

Jeanetha Boshoff and Miané Swart of the Lunar Lillies, Zahra Jogi, Amor Caromba and Faeeza Patel of the Backhand Blossoms and Samantha de Araujo from the Phoenix Flames were named MVPs in their respective seeds.

Beginning on August 19, the league brought together 60 women across six franchises, with matches played at both Play 360 and Padel 24.

“The league created a connection between the two venues, giving players opportunities to compete across courts, build partnerships and form relationships beyond their usual playing circles. Play 360 and Padel 24 provided the settings; Lowveld Padel provided the structure and shared ambition that brought the season together,” said Rafiq Mohamed, one of the organisers of Lowveld Padel.
