The Royals crowned champions
It was a big occasion at White River Country Club last week when a group of fun-loving female golfers took over the tees for the 10th annual Ladies Classic.
The group of over 100 competitors hailed from all over South Africa, Canada, England and Australia, and the organisers went all out to make this milestone event memorable.
On the first day of the tournament, there were witches, angels, minions and an assortment of colourfully dressed characters on the course.
Teams voted on the best-dressed pairs and best-decorated golf carts. The best decorated cart went to locals Di Davies and Ilonja Rabe of The Royals, who also won the overall tournament.
The Golf O’ Holics of Adele Beytell and Maryna Groenewald were named best-dressed, and the best original dressed award went to the Dippy Duo of Jacqui Mackenzie and Shar Marks.
The prize-giving was held on Wednesday. The winners of the tournament, as well as the runners-up were announced and a variety of funny and interesting prizes were handed out.
The Sand Bags, Adelen Munger and Lynda Smit, were the runners-up with Belinda Robbertze and Elfra van Eyk of The Bushbabies two shots behind, with 89, in the third spot.
Each year the tournament chooses a charity to support. A raffle and an auction were held.
The White River-based Books in Homes, which strives to provide children with affordable books and classroom aids, had the opportunity to showcase its work.
The organisation has seen great success with its work and has received orders from various countries looking to teach children English through the ingenious books. Stories include fables and Africanised versions of famous fairy tales.
The organisers were impressed with the turnout, the wonderful spirit of competitors and the effort they put into their outfits and decorations. They would also like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who contributed.
