Bowlers celebrate love with special match at Bungalows
The Bungalows Bowling Club celebrated Valentine's Day with an unusual game of bowls using two jacks (white balls).
Each lead (first player) had the chance to roll a jack, which was placed on either side of the centre line. Normal play continued for the first end but during the second end all bowls past the last jack were removed. During end three all bowls shorter than the shortest jack were taken off. In the forth end players could double their points.
Skips bowled first to the head then leads rolled their jacks and then had their turn to bowl. The amount of shots players got for that round was then doubled. A bonus point was awarded if the bowl managed to touch the jack.
In the first eight ends the team of Marlet Ireland and Bodil Runesson beat Darryl Cross and Marion Robertson’s team with a score of 28/14. Another winning team after round one was Brian Mitchell and Di Sheehy, who faced off against Irma Kuschke and Andy McQueen.
A tea break gave players the chance to recharge before braving a long and very hot afternoon of bowls.
Mitchell and Sheehy won with a score of 20/17 against Ireland and Runesson and received a small gift to celebrate their victory.
A Valentine’s Day themed braai was then held at the clubhouse, where players could unwind and socialise.
