Riders don’t horse around at Nottinghill

The conformation, manners, and schooling of the horses are of utmost importance in this discipline, as is rider skill and turnout.

From highly experienced equestrians to newcomers, they had a go at show riding, showing in-hand and working classes. The highlight of the show was the Mini Compleat Horse Tests performed. The Compleat Horse was based on the annual event at the derby in Gauteng, if riders receive points for conformation, movement soundness and turnout, utility test, the ride by the judge, showjumping, and the free test.
In the free test the rider is expected to choose a theme, music and dress, and also show off their horse’s abilities in the best possible way.

Competitors delighted the crowd with their innovation and spectacular tests – highest marks in this section were scored by Kraai Kamffer on Lezar Solero with 87,5 per cent in the adult section as Cruella de Vil with her live “Dalmatians”, Hanelize Kamffer as “The Champion” performing some breathtaking movements on Africa’s Whizzbar attaining 81,33 per cent in the junior section followed by Eldone Jansen van Rensburg on Lucky for Some “Taking a bath” with 80,67 per cent.

• Broodmare or potential broodmare – Chevignon Rapanzel, Charla du Plessis
• Stallion over 1,50 metres and up to and including 1,67 metres – San Francisco, Jandalise Venter
• Gelding over 1,50 metres and up to and including 1,67 metres – Lezar Solero, Kraai Kamffer
• Gelding over 1,67 metres – White Waters Onyx At last, Samantha Venn.
