Mpumalanga bowls senior ladies compete in Johannesburg

The Mpumalanga senior ladies walked away as the gold medallion winners of 2016. 

Mpumalanga bowls senior ladies team Maggie Barnard (Ermelo), Annelie de Kock (Middelburg), Beryl Biggs (White river), Joey Bam (Barberton), Max van der Westhuizen (Middelburg), Lynn Nicholas (White river), Toekie Botha (Lvcc) and Aannetjie Nel (Nelspruit) competed in the Perfect Delivery Bowls South Africa inter district championship recently.

They competed against nine other inter-districts namely Ekurhuleni, Sables, Boland, Port Natal, Border, Eastern Province, Northern Free state, Northern Cape and Natal Inland.

The format of play was played in two sections on a league basis with all teams in the same section playing each other. Each game was played over 21 ends split into three sets of seven ends each. One point was awarded to the team that wins a set and two points were awarded for the winning team Three bonus points were awarded for the overall winning side, shot aggregates shots of the combined two teams. A total of 13 points were available per match. Nine games were played over the five days.

After nine games were completed:

• First: Mpumalanga 89 points

• Second: Ekurhuleni 86.5 points

• Third: Sables 73.5 points

In the finals it was Mpumalanga women blue section competing against Gauteng North section winners of the women red section.

Mpumalanga ruled the green and brought home the golden medal.

• Gold medal winners: Mpumalanga

• Silver medal winners: Bowls Gauteng North

• Bronze medal winners: Ekurhuleni Bowls.
