Teams give their all to reach last 16 in Selati Cup

The title chase for the prestigious Selati Cup trophy continues to gain momentum as soccer teams from all over Nkomazi set their eyes and hopes on the final few rounds.

After an action-packed long weekend, 18 teams were successful in qualifying for the last-16 round.

Mashaba United smoothly sailed past their opponents Middleplaas Black Rovers with an effortless 2-0. Favourites Schoemansdal Junior Aces were sadly knocked out of the tourney by Young Buffaloes with an impressive 4-2 victory.

Current and defending champions Block A Naughty Boys were given a run for their money when they took on Mhlambanyatsi Rovers. They played to a 2-2 draw during regulation time, forcing the game to be decided on penalties 5-3 in favour of Mhlambanyatsi Rovers.

Mbuzini Junior Pirates thrilled their supporters when they put on an extraordinary performance, which was one-way traffic for Masibekela City who suffered a shocking 9-0 loss. Steenbok Classic fought hard against KaMhlushwa Junior City Stars to ensure that they were part of the last-16 contenders and were rewarded with a slim 2-1 win.

RCL Foods’ Mr Kenneth Phiri says everything is in order for the final, and that the tough competition has left only the most deserving teams in the running for the prestigious Selati Cup. “We have only the best teams remaining now and the battle for the final has already begun although we are still at the last 16. The quality of players which the teams have is truly amazing and inspiring,” Phiri said.
