‘Gymnast of the year’ earns silver in Namibia
Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy's (NGA) Amoré Gerber (11) bagged a silver apparatus medal, for her performance on uneven bars, at the Region 5 Artistic Gymnastics Competition in Walvisbaai, Namibia.
She was part of the South African pre-junior team, and she was the only gymnast from Mpumalanga who was selected to be a part of team South Africa.
The South African squad comprised a senior, junior and pre-junior team. Amoré was one of five gymnasts in the pre-junior team.
Scouts spotted the talented gymnast at the recent South African Gym Games, where she achieved fourth place overall and palmed apparatus medals for her beam and bar routines.
The SA team managed to secure an overall first place.
In 2016 she competed in her very first SA Gym Games, where she finished in fourth place overall and achieved a gold medal for uneven bars and a silver medal for beam.
At the NGA’s annual Rock ‘n Roll prize-giving, Amoré took home multiple trophies.
She was awarded the title of best gymnast on uneven bars and the best gymnast on beam. Her coach, Maré Putter, also awarded her the floating trophy for gymnast of the year.
Amoré has set her sights high, and dreams of qualifying for the Olympic Games later on in her career.
