City to host SA’s very best
Mbombela is once again set to host the first leg of the Grand Prix series.
Ayrton Sweeney, Erin Gallagher, Martins Binedell, Hanim Abrahams, Rebecca Meder and Emily Visagie, who are members of team South Africa for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, are expected to take to Van Riebeeck Park’s pool on Saturday and Sunday.
For the first time, the German youth team will also be in action.
Head coach of Swimming South Africa (SSA), Graham Hill said spectators can look forward to seeing SA’s top swimmers in Mbombela.
“We should see some really good racing.”
Director of high performance at SSA, Dean Price said this weekend will also see the national open-water team take part in the LowMed open-water swim at Longmere Dam on Saturday.

“It serves as training ahead of the world junior championships later this year.”
Price said they plan to make the Mbombela event an annual aquatic occasion for the town and a highlight on the national swimming calendar.
“It is ideal. We have the facilities and tourism attractions,” he explained.
