Norbert to train with IAAF coach of the year, Ans Botha

Athletic great, Norbert Ponisammy will join International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) coach of the year, Ans Botha.

Botha is well known for her success as she coaches South African 400-metre world-record holder, Olympic champion and world champion, Wayde van Niekerk.

The former pupil of Lowveld High School has been signed by World Wide Scholarship (WWS) to join the University of the Free State (UFS) where he will study sport management.

Norbert will also train with South African Olympic medalist and motivational speaker, Khotso Mokoena.

“It is a dream come true. I am going to miss the Lowveld, and I can’t thank my coaches and family enough for having supported me in my athletics career. It hasn’t always been easy, but I want to be an example to youngsters. Don’t use your circumstances as an excuse – rather use them as motivation,” said Norbert.

Mpumalanga representative of WWS, Janine Faulha said they are excited to see what he can produce as an athlete in the future.

“He is an amazingly talented young man and one of the up-and-coming athletes in South Africa. Our main goal is to develop our youth and to give them the opportunity to make a name for themselves in the light of future Olympics.”
