Riders! On your mark, get set, go
More than a thousand mountain bikers will converge on Barberton this weekend for the 22nd annual Barberton XCM Mountain Bike Challenge hosted by the Barberton Rotary Club.
“It’s one of the last ultra-events left on the national calendar so we’re looking forward to having many racers using the race to prepare of the Cape Epic,” said Marina Coetzee one of the race organisers.
Local riders, Nico Bell and Gawie Combrink of Team NAD Pro will be racing with well-known women’s rider Vanessa Bell also looking to secure a podium position. Defending champion, Henry Uys will not be racing this year.

“This year riders in the 110 kilometre, 77 kilometre and 48 kilometre will also be competing for the title of king and queen of the mountain, with cash prizes for both the first men and women to conquer the famous Barberton peaks,” said Coetzee.
Organised by the Barberton Rotary Club, all proceeds will be donated to charities in the town.
With pre-entries closed, riders looking to enter can secure a spot during late entries which open at 15:00 on Friday January 26 and close at 21:00 at the Barberton High School Hall.
