Team Salmo bags first LBT win
The first round of the 2018 Lowveld Bass Trail (LBT) kicked off with a record attendance of 56 boats.
A total of 230 fish were weighed in, with a total weight of 130,018 kilograms and an average weight of 0,565 kilograms per fish.
Winning patterns
First-placed Team Salmo’s Morné Strauss and Shaun Fredriksson rotated between spots the whole day, targeting fish in 1,5 to three metre water with Salmo 5,5 Hornets and Zoom super flukes.
Second-placed Team Magical Lures’ Theo Bezuidenout and son CJ, drew tag 55 and found themselves on the back foot. They, like many of the other teams, targeted the shallow vegetation and filled their limit of fish. Around noon, they went searching for kicker fish to upgrade the limit. They eventually managed to get the fish biting with mojo-rigged grubs.

Rounding off the podium, Team Thermocline’s Herman Geldenhuys and William Myers started the day
out in deeper water, but quickly noted finicky fish and resorted to the shallow vegetation to fill their limit of five fish.
The biggest bass for the day was weighed in by Team Salmo, a decent 2,265-kilogram keeper, part of their 5,88-kilogram bag weight which helped them secure the win.
