Nolwazi is stronger and better ahead of interhigh

Nolwazi Mashaba set a new record at this year's Lowveld High School Prestige Athletics Meeting on Saturday.

Nolwazi, who jumped 11,05 metres at the SA Schools Athletics Championships in Bloemfontein last year, improved her personal best to 12,25 metres in the u/19 triple jump, despite being 16 years old.

Adding to Lowveld High’s solid performance on the day, Banele Muwayi also set a record in the u/16 boys’ long jump with a distance of 6,47 metres.

He was senior victor ludorum on the day.

For her convincing performance in both the u/19 triple jump and u/16 long jump Nolwazi was crowned best female senior field athlete.

Banele, who was best senior male field athlete, placed second in the u/17 boys’ triple jump and fourth in the u/16 boys’ high jump.

Felicity Sibande from Meridian Karino was the junior victrix ludorum and Bandile Mabuza from Barberton High School the junior victor ludorum.

Natacha Bouwer, marketing officer at the school said that Lowveld High School was pleased with how the event was organised and proud of the athlete’s performances.

“It was a well-executed event and fun was had by all,” she said, “We would like to thank the local schools for their participation and everyone who came out in support,” she said.
