Golfers compete to be crowned Malelane champ

Malelane Golf Club's members competed in the annual Club Championships on March 10 to gauge how they've improved throughout the year and how they weigh up against each other.

A beautiful course and Saturday’s fantastic weather made Malelane Golf Club’s championships a great experience for members.

The annual competition saw 30 golfers swing their clubs to be crowned club champion.

Eddie Wilken had the Men’s A division’s best gross on 138, while Jan Combrink had the best net on 141. In the B division, Jaque Venter had the best gross on 166 and Sam Mashaba the best net on 148. Bob Thornley was the winner of the C division with 65.

Eddie Wilken is this year’s club champion.

Dimpho Mhlongo had the best gross in the ladies’ A division with 170, Bev Gillespie had the B division’s best gross on 190 and Shirgew Jones was the C division winner with 48.

Dimpho Mhlongo was chosen as the Malelane Golf Club’s ladies’ champion.

Dino Thobela was nearest to pin on hole 2 and 11 and Lucia Mhlabane on hole 8 and 17.

Eddie Wilken was crowned the men’s champion and Dimpho Mhlongo, the ladies’.

The Malelane Golf Club will be hosting two other events this month. Laerskool Malelane’s annual golf day takes place next Saturday, followed by the popular Lalapalm Tournament from Wednesday.

This year the three-day Lalapalm will be hosted for the 34th time and golfers from across the country are expected to enter.
