Local cricketer off to Sri Lanka
Joshua, who was selected to be part of the team during a tournament with the same name in October last year, is the only u/15 player from Mpumalanga who will make the journey.
Joshua Greeff, an u/15 cricketer from Penryn College, will soon be jetting off to Sri Lanka to participate in the Shaun Pollock Invitation Cricket Tour.
The team, comprising only u/15 players, will visit four Sri Lankan provinces and play a total of six games; two 50-over games and four T20 matches. The tour is from April 26 to May 5.

“Although he was selected on the grounds of his all-rounder abilities, he has been given the opportunity to star as the opening bowler for the duration of the tour,” said his father, Mark.
Joshua, who has been working hard to build on last season’s performance which saw him pull off the remarkable feat of scoring six consecutive half-centuries and two centuries in the local T20 u/14 school league, is looking forward to refining his bowling abilities during the tour.

“He will have to work on his bowling, because there is a marked difference in the pitch, speed and play between South Africa and Sri Lanka. He will have to rely on various bowling techniques to keep his opponents on their toes,” said Mark.
In a bid to cover the costs of sending Joshua on the tour, his father organised a fund-raising event in the form of a golf day at Mbombela Golf Club on March 2.
“We had a great turnout with 80 players participating and raising enough money to comfortably send Josh on his tour,” said Mark, who extended his heartfelt thanks to all who participated.

“We’re sure he will have loads of fun and learn a great deal on his trip,” he concluded. Joshua said he is looking forward to the challenges which playing as an u/15 might bring.
