Player’s decade of Selati Cup experience celebrated
A Selati Cup player celebrated 10 years of competing in the tournament and his team's victory on Sunday.
Petro Nkosi of Mawewe Supercurl is the first player in the Selati Cup soccer tournament’s history to achieve a decade of participation and lifted the Selati Cup in 2006 with the Ntunda Home Killers.
“Ten years is a really long time and in that time I have learned a great deal. I know what is needed to go all the way to the final and eventually become champion. I am going to use my experience to help my team win this trophy; winning the Selati Cup twice with two different teams” Nkosi said.

The weekend marked the start of the tournament’s second round and Mawewe Supercurl booked their spot in round three with a 5-3 victory over Magogeni Junior Pirates. Strong teams such as the Mawewe Chiefs and Schulzendal Star Wanderers also celebrated wins, but Nkosi hopes his experience, and winning attitude will see his team in the finals.
Other teams that are through to the next round are KaMhlushwa Screamer Eleven, Dludluma Love & Peace, Mlambo Royal Lions, Tonga Chelsea, Mandulo No Mistake, Jeppes Cobra, Hoyi Darkies, Schoemansdal High Eagles, Boschfontein FC, Steenbok Classic, Block A United, KaMhlushwa Junior City Stars and Block A Naughty Boys.

Abednego Khoza of Magogeni Junior Pirates and Sanele Khanyile of Schulzendal Eleven Experience are currently the leading goalscorers at five goals each.
The tournament’s team record makers so far are the Magogeni who scored 12-1 against Mgobodzi Celtics and Steenbok who won 10-1 versus Middelplaas Black Pirates.
