Archer hunts down gold
Barberton archer, Kobie du Preez is crowned the National Champion Compound Master during the 68th World Archery National Target Championships.
It took place at the sport fields of Marks Park, Johannesburg.
She has been undefeated for the third year in a row and was also awarded North Gauteng Provincial colours.
Du Preez competed in the 1440 category.
She participated in the Compound Master Women category and received gold medals for both rounds as well as a trophy for the 1440 Round.
“I didn’t have much field practice time prior to nationals because of an injury. I however spent a lot of time on mental training. After the 720 Round I was ranked second. I proceeded to the eliminations with a strong head and knew I only had to shoot 15 good arrows to still have a go at the gold medal,” said Du Preez.
Her goal is to earn her national colours in target archery next year and to participate in the World Field Archery Championships in August.

• A total of 144 arrows are shot at four distances, depending on the category according to your age group
720
• It consists of 72 arrows shot at a single distance, also depending on your age group. This is just a ranking round to determine who your elimination partner will be. Eliminations then consist of only 15 arrows and the winner goes through to compete against a winner from a different match.
