Bell and Combrinck conquer joBerg2c

Team NAD's Gawie Combrinck and Nico Bell secured the overall victory of the joBerg2c after they won stage eight in Jolivet, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday.

The duo finished day eight and the last competitive stage of racing, which was contested over
99 kilometres from MacKenzie Club in Ixopo, in three hours, 39 minutes and 10 seconds. They were followed by Insect Science’s Alan Gordon and Timothy Hammond (3:42,45), who also finished second overall.

Last year, Combrinck and Bell had to settle for second place behind Philip Buys and Matthys Beukes.

Buys did not compete in this year’s joBerg2c while Beukes won the solo men’s category when he finished day eight in 3:33,15.

Third in 3:48,50 and in the overall standings, were Silverback-Best4Sports-Mad Macs’ Shaun-Nick Bester and Declan Sidey.

While Bell and Combrinck had a commanding lead, every day was a hard day out on the bike and the pair used the opportunity to push themselves in a racing environment, testing their equipment, nutrition and recovery.

“We were delighted with the effort on the trails and left as proud victors. Thank you to all for your continued support and words of encouragement throughout the event,” said Bell.
