Swimmers included in national training squad

Uniswim Nelspruit's Erica Sibande (15) and Brooklyn Croxon (14) are on their way to Kings Park Pool, Durban where they have been included in the national training squad.

A coaching team of Swimming South Africa approached these two girls at the regional level three and junior championships earlier this year.

Erica joined Uniswim in 2013 at the young age of just three years old. Over the 2017/18 season, the 15-year-old improved her personal best times by 19,34 per cent.

She scored a total of 15 points at level three and bagged a total score of 3 002 HyTek points over the season.

“I was surprised and ecstatic at the same time. It is a wonderful opportunity to be part of the training squad,” said Erica.

Just four years ago, Brooklyn started training with coach of Uniswim, Jasper Venter.

Over the 2017/18 season, her personal best times improved by a massive 46,54 per cent. She scored a total of 38 points at the South African National Junior Age Group Champions and tallied 6 650 on the HyTek points system.

“It will be nerve-racking, but it is such an adrenalin rush to know that I will be in the same pool as Chad le Clos and Tatjana Schoeman,” said Brooklyn.

The duo will have a chance to be included in the South African squad for various international championships, like the African Youth Games and the African Swimming Championships later this year.
