Bodybuilder to represent country in US

Nicky Nel (24) will be heading to the global showpiece, the WFF World Championships, set to take place at the Huntington Beach in California, US in November.

On Saturday Nel and Tjokkie van Tonder competed at the NABBA South African Championships, in Pretoria. They secured their qualification at the recent Gauteng provincial championships, which was also held in Pretoria.

Nel, who was in action in the bikini model for under-1,63 metres tall, won the category and she was crowned overall winner of all the categories.

“I still can’t believe how well I performed. All the hard work, early morning in the gym, tasteless food, sweat and tears were all worth it. I can’t explain the feeling,” said Nel.

Van Tonder was part of the men’s performance for under-75 kilograms line-up.

During the provincial championships, Van Tonder placed second in the men’s athletic body building under-80 kilograms. On Saturday he won his line-up and took silver in the overall category.

* On a previous occasion Lowvelder reported that Van Tonder will not travel with the national team to the United States.  This however is incorrect.

He will be leaving for the US on October 30 to represent South Africa at the WFF World Championships.
