Jacques hits the wicket in a heroic display
The prestigious Coca-Cola Hero of the Day award is presented on each day of the tournament in recognition of a game-changing ''hero'' moment.
Jacques Vosloo, a learner at Hoërskool Nelspruit, was named the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day for day one at the recent Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week.
The event, where South Africa’s future cricket heroes are made, was held in Cape Town from December 16 to 21.
The prestigious Coca-Cola Hero of the Day award is presented on each day of the tournament in recognition of a game-changing ”hero” moment.
Jacques was selected for the award by a Coca-Cola-appointed panel of cricket experts after he took the first six wickets in a match against the Northern Cape.
His effort put Northern Cape in a position they could not recover from, and they were bowled out for 137.
The young man’s figures of 6/21 are the second-best in timed cricket in the tournament and the ninth best figures in all formats of the game. Jacques followed up his first innings effort by taking 3/11 in the second innings, making sure that Mpumalanga won the game outright.
“I never, in my wildest dreams thought that I would be able to stand here and receive the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day award. To have this opportunity inspires me to work hard and do my best, and who knows, but I might have the chance to win the trophy again at some stage during the week,” said Jacques.
In 2017, he was ranked sixth for taking the most wickets during the week and just missed out on a spot in the Cubs Week.
