Mayoral Cup still a heated affair
The last 16 football teams in the Mayoral Sports Development Cup had fans on the edge of their seats last week.
The Mayoral Sports Development Cup’s last 16 round started last Wednesday at KaMaqhekeza and KaMhlushwa stadiums.
In the open category, Block C Intermilan knocked Dludluma Pups United out of the tournament with three goals to two. Intermilan scored their winning goal in the 87th minute of the game.
Last year’s u/21 finalists, Naas The Bees were eliminated by Jeppes Reef Cobra, 5-1.

On Saturday Schoemansdal Junior Aces defeated Mananga Arsenal on penalties (seven to six) after a zero-goal draw.
Block B Joe Slovo United was defeated by Ngwenyeni Roman Rangers two goals to none.
Other teams that made it to the last eight are Ngwenyeni Academy, and the Masters & Legends teams of Tonga, Shongwe, Mid-Schulze and Sihlangu.
On Sunday at KaMaqhekeza, fans saw u/21 defending champions KaMhlushwa City Stars defeat Hectorspruit United. City Stars scored two goals in the first half and secured their win by scoring four more within 10 minutes. Hectorspruit only managed to net one goal.

In the open category, Magogeni Santos lost against the new team in the tournament, Block B Legend 45, with 1-0.
In the last two games of the day the u/21 teams of Tonga Chelsea and Block B Green Mambas won their matches with 1-0 and 2-0.
Other teams still in the running are Matsamo Junior Aces and Schulzendal Phefeni in the open category, Lugedlane, Riverzone, SDN-Steenbok and KaMaqhekeza in the masters and legends category and u/21 teams Buffelspruit Juveniles and Mawewe Charlton.
The last eight matches in the various categories will take place this weekend.
The masters and legends matches will take place at KaMaqhekeza Stadium from 09:00 to 15:00 on Saturday, while the women’s teams will face off at KaMhlushwa Stadium between 09:00 and 13:00.
On Sunday, the open category teams clash at KaMaqhekeza Stadium and the u/21’s at KaMhlushwa Stadium from 09:00 to 15:00.
